Regarding the presentation, I think we will use the old powerpoint slide we presented to Ms Joyce Lee last semester. We will use that powerpoint as it would be useful for our explaination. We has not presented this powerpoint to Ms Lim. So, I think we can take this chance to present this powerpoint slide to her.

During the presentation, we will take turns to present the documentary and powerpoint. Han will be excused from presenting the documentary and powerpoint as he was not in our class for the last semester. Of course, he will be assigned with a task. He will have to start the presentation. For example, ‘Good morning/afternoon ____’, followed by introducing our group members. For the rest, we will have to choose the part of documentary or powerpoint slides, each of us would like to present.

Bala, Wendy and I will be presenting the documentary film, while Bruce and Phan Chong will be presenting the powerpoint slides. As stated, Han will be introducing us.

Is this fine with everyone? If you want any changes, please tell me. :D

Alabama in the 1930s

Posted by wendy9407 on June 30, 2008

Source from http://www.flickr.com/photos/an0nym0usmuse/386023243/

I choose this picture because it depicts the scenery of an old neighborhood like the Maycomb town in the novel of ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’. Furthermore, there was a big house with yards and fences like Scout’s house. On the other hand, the novel said that Scout knew everyone in town. Therefore, this shows that Maycomb is a small town with buildings build quite close to each other and the picture shows it too.

About Alabama.

Posted by Jiahuan on June 30, 2008

I decided to choose this picture as it is taken in Alabama, during the 1930s. To add on, big houses were shown in this picture.

Picture for “To kill a mocking bird”

Posted by zhang zi lu on June 29, 2008

I choose this picture because first this is a black and white picture. Second one building is one house, which likes the house in the book. The evidence is that in Macomb, one family has one house. There is a black man because there are black people in that town.

Minor Character:Kill a mocking Bird(Miss Caroline)

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Introduction (Miss Caroline)

Her full name is Caroline Fisher. She was Scott first grade teacher(Primary one). She is new to Maycomb & not aware about the environment nor the people. She disagrees with Scott and her lack of understanding about the children get her into conflict and dislike on them. She is from North Alabama, from Winston County.

Description

Miss Caroline was no more than twenty-one. She had bright auburn hair, pink cheeks, and wore crimson finger-nail polish. She also wore high-heeled pumps. She looked and smelled like a peppermint drop.

What the character says/ does?

She is rather a dominant person who wants others to listen to her.She wants things to be in her own way like she tells Scott not to ask her father to teach.

What other characters say about her?

Scott first impression on Caroline is horrible and she dislikes her & even condemn her by saying she is a ‘damn lady’ when Jem asked her how was she getting along in school.

What does it tells you about the character?

I felt Miss Caroline has to learn to be more understanding with the children. She always jumps into conclusion when she tells Scott that her father teaches her when that is not the truth. She is acting on impulse regarding her student,Burris. She should have behaved in a diplomatic and tactful matter with a lots of patience in Burris Ewell case.Being an adult, she should have held her tears instead of crying in front of the children. This reflect her weaker, soft character.A lack of caring words for Scott had lead to constant conflict.

Character Tracker of Calpurnia

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Calpurnia

Introduction

Calpurnia was a black woman who works as the Finch family’s cook and housekeeper. She is one of the many motherly figures in Scout’s and Jem’s life. She had been with Jem since Jem was born.  Atticus trusted Calpurnia, relies on her for support raising his children, and considers her as part of the family. She is treated by the Finchs as if she were a Finch as they see her as a member of their family. Calpurnia care for the Finch children in two different ways; as their housekeeper and as a member of the family.

Description

Calpurnia .is a friendly person whom is helpful and caring to the entire Finch family. Her skin is black and she comes from a black family and background. She was all angles and bones and she was near sighted and she sainted. Her hand was as wide as bed slat and  twice as hard.

What the character says/ does?

Calpurnia has spent all her days working for the Finchs and she does her work in a happy yet serious way. She is happy to care for and teach the Finchs. Calpurnia also taught scout how to write script on rainy days.

What other characters say about her?

Scout described her family’s black cook, Caipurnia, as strict and tyrannical. She is  very clever and well educated, a thing that most black people of that time were not. Calpurnia is also seen to be quite strict and firm with the children. Scout and Jem will also often consult Calpurnia on their ideas and questions as she listens carefully and offers useful suggestions to them. This is seen by the way Scout and Jem both treat Calpurnia as an equal, just like their father Atticus does. Atticus will everytime support for her.She is a very dominant character as she thinks that she is right at all the time. She is seen as Mr Atticus as ‘indispensable’as he mentioned to Scott that they can’t operate a single day without her.

What does it tells you about the character?

It appears to me that Calpurnia almost lives a double life; a white family member whilst working and a black woman at her home. She is very kind, caring, concerned  & helpful person who goes out of her way to inform the operator that Tim, a mad dog is on the loose. In return, she wanted the operator to in from others about this dog.She even took the trouble to go to the Radly’s house to inform about the mad dog. She acted like a ‘teacher’ when she set out a writing task for Scott to do.

Character Tracker of Tom Robinson

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Introduction

Tom Robinson is a minor character. He is a black man who stands falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Atticus agrees to take his case, even though he knows it is probably hopeless, because of racial discrimination and segregation. Tom Robinson is convicted purely because he is a black man and his accuser is white.

Description

———————————Unknown—————————————————–

What the character says/ does?

Tom Robinson cares for his family and he is a helpful person and he provided for himself. Tom likes to do the right thing or does what he thinks is right

What other characters say about him ?

——————Unknown——————–

What does it tells you about the character?

It tells me that Atticus fights against racism, and a few other townspeople are on his side, including Miss Maudie and Judge Taylor. This tells me that he must be a good man or else Atticus would not have taken up his case.

Character Tracker of Boo Radly

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Boo Radley

Introduction

Arthur is a another name of  Boo Radley. Boo Radley had a hard life mingling with his family and community. His family was never considered one of the better places to be. As a young boy, he was in trouble with the police, and his strictly parents have kept him indoors ever since. He joined with the wrong company and his father,Mr Radley punished him by keeping him indoors for 15 years. Boo never goes outside his house and nasty rumors are spread about him. He lives with Mr Radley brother,Nathan. Though the children & people have never seen him, rumors about that whatever strange things happen in the neighborhour, Boo is often blamed.

Description

The children imagine Boo as a ghoulish figure who eats cats and stalks about the neighbourhood under the cover of night. He is about six and half feet tall judging from his tracks has rotten yellow teeth, popping eyes and drooled most of the time. A long jagged ran across his face.

What the character says/ does?

He dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were blood-stained .He ate an animal raw, and he never wash the blood off.

What other characters say about him ?

Miss Maudie says that Arthur was a nice boy when she used to know him.Miss Maudie also concluded that Boo had never actually hurt anyone or done any sort of crime he was just did not like to be around people because all they did was torture him and spread rumours about him .She speaks highly of him and said that he spoke nicely to her, no matter what people said he did. However, other characters believe that he ate raw animals & his hands were blood-stained so he is considered to be of an evil-figure and project an image of cruelty and vengeance.

What does it tells you about the character?

In fact, Boo stands as a figure of innocence who befriends and protects the children in his own way.He was very kind as when there was a fire,he covered Scout with a blanket without her knowledge.Although he seemed to be a bold person, deep inside he is kind and compassionate.

Character Tracker of Mayella Ewell

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Introduction

Another minor Character, Mayella Ewell.Although she is a minor character, her story is the centre of the book. The oldest of the many Ewell children, at age nineteen. She lives a miserable and lonely existence, looked down by the whites and prohibited from befriending blacks

What the character says/ does?

Mayella Ewell is a person who seeks for  attention. She does this by lying, and accusing a black man of rape. She and her father Bob Ewell, seek to improve their social standing and try to get the community to sympathize with them.

What other characters say about her?

———————–Unknown——————

What does it tells you about the character?

I thinks Mayella Ewell is an attention seeker as she wants attention so as a result, she loved Tom Robinson. She is a Hippocratic person as she say something different to her lover and father and she is not truthful to her love. She has betrayed her love and cleverly switch her part of the story in court.A person not to be trusted at all.

Character Tracker of Jem

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Introduction

Jem Finch is also known as Jeremy Finch who is the eldest in the family. He has a younger sister named Scout.Jem is 4 years older than his sister. He is motherless since the age of 6.He got his arm badly injured at the age of thirteen. That did not stop him from playing  football. His passion for this favourite game seem to be very obvious.

Description

His left arm was shorter than his right, when he stood and walked, the back of his hand was as right angled to his body, his thumb was parallel to his thigh .

What the character says/ does

Jem was a brave boy. He was brave enough to stand up and do the things he had to, even if they scared him. An example is he was so daring to touch Mr Radley house. This reflected how brave he was. Jems bravery is evident in his lifestyle, his pride, and his emotions. The Brave Jem Finch is also very hot tempered and he loved to fight. He loved to please his father and hate to disappoint him not because he wanted to avoid punishment nor Scolding.Furthermore as far as as Jem could remembered, Atticus never whipped him .That is the reason why he went back to get his pants near Radley house in the night. This also showed  his bravery to go to Radley place alone at night. He was determined and persistent to play football inspite of his left arm shorter than his right. This reflected  his strong character and he never gave up as this is indicated in his favourite  sport. Jem is quieter and more reserved than his sister, and has very high standards and expectations for people. When these expectations are not met, Jem has a difficult time resolving his feelings. Sometimes moody and sullen, sometimes kind and gentle, Jem emerges as a leader as he helps Scout understand how to get along in school and reminds her to respect Atticus and their other elders. Jem leads this change, as he is older than Scout.

What the other character says about him?

Scout knows that he always waits until he thinks it is the right time to reveal his emotions. Jeremy Jem Finch acts as Scout’s playmate and protector

What does it tells you about the character?

Jems bravery makes him conscious of his emotions and he doesn’t always want others to know how he feels. He is so courageous that even though his broke his arm,his persistence  & determination encouraged him to continue playing football.I find him rather boastful because he was bragging to Walter that he went all the way to Boo’s house. He is caring and love his sister and console her when she cried.

Character Tracker of Scout

Posted by balasubramaniam on June 29, 2008

Introduction of Scout

Scout  is also known as Jean Louise Bullfinch. Scout is the main character in the Novel She unthinkingly rushes into fights and scrapes, cries when her pride is hurt. She is the youngest of the Finch family and she is 4 years younger than her brother,Jem. Scout is very different from most girls. She did not like to do the same things as most girls of her age. She is the kind of girl who would rather play with boys than girls, and did not have any girl friends to speak of. She always plays with Jem and her best friend Dill. Even when they say it is not for girls, she still wants to play. Atticus has taught her more than school ever taught.

Description of scout

Scout is just a straight, plain tom-boy.  She wears dirty overalls, very scruffy, has bangs and, like most tom-boys, hates to wear dresses. A tomboy at heart, Scout works hard not to “act like a girl” by wearing overalls instead of dresses and quarrels with other children who antagonize her.  She has a good vocabulary for her age. A tomboy at heart although physically she is a girl.

What the character says/ does

Scout is very warm and friendly girl. She is not racist and she does not segregate blacks and whites. Scout, because of her age, and being the youngest in the family, is impulsive by nature and extremely emotional too. She realizes how offensive they had been by tormenting Boo Radley. Though a natural tomboy, she begins to adjust to her feminine role and enjoys helping Calpurnia(A black cook and housekeeper) in the kitchen. Scout is an adorable character, with a great potential for perception She is very mature for her age.Scout is a very intelligent child who learned how to read through her natural instinct, sitting on Atticus’s lap and following along in his book. She has developed & grown up early than other children of her age. She did not discover her full potential that she could better than others until her teacher tells her she can’t read anymore. this shows that reading was a pleasure and a freedom she had taken for granted. She is a tomboy with a good heart, a smart head and plenty of pride. She treats adults as equals and they treat her as an equal. She enjoys reading very much. Extremely smart and bright for her age, Scout loves to read spends time reading with her father, Atticus, every night. She believes that everyone should be treated the same, no matter what family they are from. She is a good moral person. For instance, when she wants to spend more time with Walter Cunningham, Aunt Alexandra disagrees saying that no Finch girl should ever consort with a Cunningham. Scout is frustrated by this, as she wants to be able to choose her own friends. She is independant for her age.

What other characters say about her ?

Being Spunky and head strong and outspoken, Scout often finds herself in trouble with her father, her housekeeper, Calpurnia, her neighbours, her aunt Alexandra, and her teacher,Miss Caroline.

What does it tells you about the character?

I  believe that Scout is intelligent for her age of 6.She knows how to read compared to the other students. She is not also racist compared to the other residents in Maycomb. She does not discriminate between the whites and blacks.Although, she is a tomboy, she is very sensitive and cries when her pride is hurt. She is impulsive and quarrel when anyone antagonised her pride. She is a passionate person who loves her father and does not want to hurt his feeling by not revealing the truth when she quarrelled with Francis. She is straight forward, uncompromising towards her teacher as said that if her teacher conduct had been more friendly towards her,she would have felt sorry for her teacher.

To kill a mocking bird – Quote Picker

Chapter 1

page 6

-He played with us,read to us, and treated with courteous detachment.

We can know about her(author) father’s personality from this sentence.

page 8

-Dill as a pocket Merlin, whose head teemed with eccentric plans, strange longings, ans quaint fancies.

It contains that Dill is very active and curious boy. Furthermore, I and Jem want to know about Dill who is a curiosity.

page 12

-”There goes the meanest man ever God blew breath into,”

This phrase is talking about Mr.Radleys. It contains that he is a  very ill-natured and malicious.

page 13

-Boo was about six and a half feer tall, judging from his tracks;he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s wht his hands were blood-stained – if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time.

This is description of Boo. We can know that Boo looks like fearful and hideous. On top of that, he is a cruel person as he dine on raw squirrels and any cats which he catch.

chapter 2

page 18

-Now that I was compelled to think about it, reading was something that just came to me, as learning to fasten the seat of my union suit without looking around, or achieving two bows from a snarl of shelaces………….,but I had stared at them  all the evenings in my memory, listening to the news of the day,Bills To Be Enacted into Laws, the diaries of Lorenzo Dow -

We can know from this paragraph that author was very intelligent. As she can read book without any education. Just listening to the news of the day and read diaries of Lorenzo Dow.

page 21

-My special knowledge of the Cuningham tribe – one branch, that is – was gained from events of last winter. Walter’s father was one of Atticus’s clients. After a dreary conversation in our living room one night about his entailment, before Mr Cunningham left he said, ‘Mr Finch, i don’t know when i’ll ever be able to pay you.’ ‘Let that be the least of your worries, Walter,’ Atticus said.

From this paragraph, we can know that author’s father’s personality. He is a very kind and magnanimous as Mr Cunningham was worried about financial problem, but Atticus said that don’t worry.

chapter 3

page 31

-’until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.’

It means that you understand the other men/women’s position.

-but if Walter and I had put ourselves in her shoes we’d have seen it was an honest mistake on her part.

Aforementioned, it is similar meaning as above sentence. ‘put ourselves in her shoes’ means that you stand in her position.

page 33

-Jem and I were accustomed to our father’s last-will-and-testament diction, and we were at all times free to interrupt Atticus for a translation when it was beyond our understanding.

We can know personality of father.Atticus is friendly and obliging to his children

page 36

-Rather than risk a tangle with Calpurnia, I did as Jem told me.For some reason, my first year of school had wrought a great change in our relationship:Calpurnia’s tyranny, unfairness, and meddling in my business had faded to gentle grumblings of general disapproval. On my part, I went to much trouble, sometime, not to provoke her.

This is a good sentence which describe the situation that I and Calpurnia’s relationship becomes better than before .

page 42

-As the summer progressed, so did our game. We polished and perfected it, added dialogue and plot until we had manufactured a samall play upon which we rang changes every day.

It describes situation that their game becomes more interesting than before as the summer progressed.

page 46

-When I admired them and hoped I would have some eventually, she said, ‘Look here.’ With a click of her tongue she Thrust out her bridgework,a gesture of cordiality that cemented our friendship

We can know from this sentence that Maudie’s personality which is very friendly and benign.

-A chameleon lady who worked in her flower beds in an dld straw hat and men’s coveralls, but after her five o’clock bath she would appear on the porch and reign over the streer in magisterial beauty.

This sentence describes Miss Maudie’s appearance which is expressed in “chameleon”.

chapter 2

I  am using the method peel to do my work(explanation). It is very useful as I am doing the explanation in the blogs, powerpoint  and even the mind map and even this is a good guide to do it in the practice and the exam especially for SBA.I am have happy to have the opportunity to do the method of using “Peel” because it helps us to make sure that the points are written in a organized way and it also make sure that I write all the important point. Although “peel”  is just a guide to any explaination,It is a good way to follow it as the guide to write smoothly and nicely  and if you follow it you will get very good marks in your exam. I also use my background knowledge to answer the questions in SBQ.Sometime I also read the textbook before posting any posts and I also read other people posts and I will comment on it.

I also learnt have to edits my pictures and films using a Mac computer. The features using the Mac computer is very interesting. The project work is also very useful for me as I learnt to cooperate with our members.I am very happy that this course that the “creative bits” benefit me in my life and I think,I can use this it skills in my future.Learning it is not easy to lesrn outsite on school. For the basic at least,It cost at least $80 for the basic and it will definitely cost more if you learnt the advance outside so you must treasure any opportunity given in the school.

problems encountered and attempts to solve these what have you learned from this?

Posted by balasubramaniam on April 8, 2008

Cooperating with each other is very important. It is because we are all working together in a team.Every people think differently.I may think of somethink but the other group members may think of otherthing but we must join the ideas up and form a nice paragraph of all the people ideas.Sometime if people do not like our ideas,we must think of other ideas. Not everytime our ideas will be accepted.Otherthing is teamwork. Teamwork is every important for our daily life.In jobs even we need teamwork to do projects. If we do not have teamwork, nobody will learnt to accept us.In our group, teamwork is being held.Without teamwork, the PowerPoint  presentation in miss lee class will not be held. The blog wil not have so many entries  like 200 plus posts and 60 plus comments and most important,We will not even complete the documentary in time so we must thank everybody work in the team. There is also misunderstanding in our group.I have posted relevant things and the other members think it is irrelevant things and we spend one period to solve the problem and at last the problem was solved.Otherthing is communication. We do not have so much communication in our group. We sometime try to communicate at school or we will stay back after school and complete the work.

reflection 2 and 3

Posted by phanchong1994 on April 5, 2008

my group had a lot of problems when doing this project as the main problem is about discussion that make the whole project important and also the skill that the teacher teach in class .we can apply this skill that we had learn in the class and use them for the project.teamwork also plays an important without teamwork no work is done .i think the reason why our group do not have enough teamwork is because they do not trust each other.agreement and disagreement is also a problem as we cant make up our mind on what we do argee or disagree.i think all this problem can be solve by finding a time after school and stay back to do or discuss all this problem.

reflection 3

i have learn photo skill and camera angles from the teacher and also from zilu as he use alot of different camera angles and how to take certain picture at certain angles.planning for storyboard also important as we had to follow the storyboard on the angle we are going to shoot.in this project i have learn how to play about with different angles and i think i will help me in this project or maybe the next coming up project if it requires shooting.

Final reflection No. 3

Posted by zhang zi lu on April 4, 2008

During this project, I learnt a lot of skills. In the photo taken program, I learnt how to take a close-up, a medium shot and so on. It will help me a lot in the rest of my life.I used some online tools such as toondoo, slide share, mind- map tool and videos. All these help me a lot on my blog. That made my blog looked more interesting and easy to understand. The videos catch the audients’ attention so that they would learn more and more.
the history skills like the analysing sources, inferring let me know more about the process of doing my work so I understood the details and more.  That also helps me to uncover a lot of information inside the evidences. The planning of the movie, scripting and storyboarding encouraged my interesting in making a movie. As a director, I learnt a lot of skills about how to direct the actors and the videographer so that our documentary will be better.

Final reflection No. 2

Posted by zhang zi lu on April 4, 2008

In this project, our group had a lot of problems to solve. Communication is always missing because they said they got a lot of things to do and could not stay back after school. Therefore, we decided to use online to communicate with other group members such as MSN or email. Some of them still could not communicate with other group members, so we gave him works to do at home and then passed to me. After that, I would post for them. We were lack of discussion either so we always do it individually and then joined together. The last problem was one of the group member posted irrelevant things onto the blog and he argued with other group members so our group used one pried of time in school to help his to solve the question. Within the teacher’s help, finally, we solved that problem.
From these, I realized that teamwork was very important as well as to show respect to other members. That will help us to do the project in the fastest and the most successful way. The teachers really helped our group a lot. They helped us on how to do the project and to solve a lot of problems.

Final reflection No. 1

Posted by zhang zi lu on April 4, 2008

For the presentation, our group did a lot of preparing. We were trying to get all the information that we needed and trying to use simple language to help the students understand what was going on. Almost everyone contributed the presentation and practiced his or her own speech before the presentation so that I think the view of my presentation was not bad. I enjoyed teaching the classmates because I could practice my skill of speaking in the public and I could know my mistakes, problems or rather some missing points. Later on, I would improve a lot. While teacher and classmates ask questions, I knew that I did not study all my tasks and dag inside my evidences. I think if I can speak more, that will help me to overcome the little fear of presentation. I also understood that the teamwork and the process of learning were very important. If I could unit my group very well, we would get into trouble. The process of learning could help anyone of us to study the details of our work and the learning skills. If we did the process of learning at school, we would success more and more but the problem was we could not get together at school. We tried to use other methods to communicate with other group members such as MSN, hand-phone message, email and so on.

1. Group work and individual contributions to project- include something on preparing for the presentations and what u learned having to teach the classI have learnt many things in this group. One of the things is teamwork. Without teamwork, this presentation will be a success. I should be the role model in the group as I am the group leader. Even though i am the leader, during the preparation, I learnt more things from my teammates. I learnt to co-operate and listening to other’s thinking. Discussing things calmly together, listening to each other and helping each other out is very important for work to be done. If we do not co-operate, things will not be done smoothly. Although there were many commotions, we still manage to solve them. We should do our part as every member makes up the team. Lastly, we have to treat the project seriously as it will affects the whole class. By teaching the wrong thing, it wll not only affect us, but the whole class. We have to be patient and explain things slowly to the class.

2. Problems encountered and attempts to solve these: what have you learned from this?
We encountered many problems during the preparation. One of them is that there were not much co-operation in this group. Everyone of us weren’t close from the start, so things did not go as smoothly as thought. There were many commotions, argues and disagreement. We managed to calm each other and talked things nicely. We learnt to understand and accept what each and everyone is thinking. By doing these, it actually helps us to move on as a group, with more ideas. Another problem we encountered is that our time slots clashes. We always cannot find the time slot where everyone can stay back as a group for extra work. There were always problems for staying back and completing in time. We always had to do the last-minute work. This not only make us in rush, but the quality of the work wouldn’t be as good as the one that we can produced.

3. Research skills, history skills like analysing sources, inferring, mindmapping, organising, questioning sources etc, multiliteracies skills ( english) such as planning movie, shooting, scripting, storyboarding
Shooting was the skill i have just picked up. I was given chances to do the different kind of shooting, such as filming and taking pictures of different angles. We have to be sure of what is the focus when taking the shots. We must know when we should zoom and when we shouldn’t. We cannot zoom without a purpose. We have to plan the storyboards and the angles before every shot so as to make sure that the final work produced will not be too boring. In this project, I have improved on inferring picture source. We need to focus on the main point and organise the points clearly.

I have learn skills such as PEEL.The skill PEEL is very useful as it helps me to read SBQ(Source Based Question).I managed to give the whole class examples, pictures, movies of propanda of the japanese and the british.Propanda can be true or flase but most of the time it is false.I also know how to distinish between propanda and non propaganda.I did my part in the group by posting comments, pictures, video.

3. Research skills, history skills like analysing sources, inferring, mind mapping, organising, questioning sources etc, multi literacies skills ( English) such as planning movie, shooting, scripting, storyboarding

I think that my research skill is not very good as i only manage to research in the internet instead of the library. Furthermore, i tend to copy and paste the source from the web and did not used the ‘PEEL’ method to summaries the source. Thus, i think that my research skill is not so good.
As for my History skill, i think i that it is not up to standard as i sometimes had difficulties in inferring the source and organising my answer. But with the help of the method of drawing a mind map, i can understand the source easily and come up with a conclusion within minutes. Hence, i will still try my best to improve my analysing skills of sources like pictorial and written sources to a good standard.
In the other hand, i learn my multi literacies skills during the lesson of photo journalism and this help me learn how to plan the story and camera angles in every scene. Thus, i think my multi literacies skills had improved.

2. problems encountered and attempts to solve these: what have you learned from this?

The first problem encountered was during the first one to two weeks after the the topic was assigned to each group. I was told to research on the use of propaganda and had gather a lot of information. However, i do not understand most of the resources and do not know how to infer. Luckily, MsLee taught us how to infer the sources during history lesson and this help me a lot when i come to some resources like a pictorial source. From this, i learned that inferring a source was not so difficult but it need a lot of brainstorm before coming to a conclusion.
Another problem encountered was during the first trip to fort siloso. Due to bad weather, we did not enter the propaganda room which is part of our scene in the storyboard. But the weather did not stop us from going to the room. We manage to go there with the tour guide using umbrella and had an interview of the tour guide in the propaganda room. From this, i learned that nothing is impossible if a person have the will to do it.

Reflection

Posted by wendy9407 on March 31, 2008

1.Group work and individual contributions to project- including something on preparing for the presentations and what i learned
having to teach the class

I had contributed to the group by doing some research related to the topic. Being a researcher, i research in the web and sometimes come across some good resources that benefits us. However, i think that i did not do a good job as most of the sources were copyrighted from the web. So nowadays i have been trying to improve by commenting in those propaganda images posted by ZiLu using the ‘PEEL’ method taught by MsLee. Before the presentation, our group met some difficulties like having to contact each other for discussion. After all, we still overcome the difficulties and did the final power point.
Finally, we had our presentation today. It was quite exciting but scary as this was my first time teaching the class. During the presentation, i tried my very best in explaining the British propaganda. However, i do met some difficulties like going out of point in explaining the purpose of the British propaganda. To sum up, i learned that explaining something was really difficult but if we had the might we can still explain it clearly.

Reflection on last week topic

Posted by balasubramaniam on March 30, 2008

Reflection on vikineswari groupI think the presenter, sheng hong was very nervous. He did not ask a lot of “Why”. I do not understand the topic a bit.I know about the suffering and the mindmap is not too detailed. He never gave an explanation about the topic and He should show the video first to make it a SBQ first to make the lesson more interesting. I think he do not need to elaborate on the diseases.

The reflection on Fort siloso

The reflection on Fort siloso

The trip on fort siloso was nice but unfortunately,we did not finished the documentury.I think we spend  a lot of time interwing people. In our own opinion,I think the group should seperate the jobs.Altough,we have very little member,we can take 2 to 3 digital camera and maybe ask the people in port siloso to take:example the guide.Anothe thing that I observed is that we group went there and pratise. It is a kind of wasting time. They should pratise in  school and go there to act it.One thing our group did good is they took the most important shot in port siloso and the background for it is nice and the unnesseary shots, they took at school.I enjoyed it very much

Reflection on the second Fort Siloso trip

Posted by zhang zi lu on March 26, 2008

Although the weather was not bad on that day, the time was not enough. We did not finish all the scenes so we need to finish it at this Friday. I think we wasted a lot of time at running. I think the interview of the foreigners were not necessary because their evidences were not reliable and they would give out the answers that we did not want. I think the filming was quite good. The background was very good. I enjoyed it very much.

Propaganda handbill

British oppression is caricatured in this anti-British propaganda handbill printed by the Indian Independence League in East Asia. The Japanese worked hard at cultivating the nationalistic sentiments of the Indians in Singapore to assist them in their planned conquest of Singapore.
